The park & pavilion

The new park sits at the heart of Elephant Park. The first phase of the park opened to the community in 2017 and featured rolling lawns, existing mature trees, extensive planting, and a temporary play space that included climbing walls, swings, a slide and sand pit.

We are now thrilled to have opened the second phase of the park, which has seen the park not only double in size but also have a number of new features added.

The new park and improved park now features the following :

  • Similar to the first phase, it includes large open lawn areas for relaxation and informal sports, with vibrant and colourful planting beds and rain gardens along the edges
  • A series of pocket spaces have been delivered along the edges of this lawn, creating quieter, more intimate places to complement the busier central space
  • The park is a playable landscape throughout, and the temporary play space in phase 1 has now been replaced by a large, permanent natural play area known as Elephant Springs. You can see an image of this unique new rocky, watery and sandy landscape below, or you can also visit our separate website here if you want to read more about how the space was designed.
  • We’ve kept as many of the existing, mature trees as possible, which gives the park a unique, established feel now it has reopened. Similar to the first phase, we have planted many more new trees and there is high quality planting throughout
  • Our original plans for the park were constrained by three roads surrounding the park, but we have worked really hard to either remove these or greatly pedestrianise them. This means the park will not only be a much safer place, but it also provides more space for the restaurants, bars and cafes that will surround the park
  • The improvements we have made also mean the park can now stay open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • The final piece of the park's second phase that still needs to be completed this year is the southwest corner of the park, which will be anchored by a park plaza that includes a new park pavilion built around mature trees. The pavilion will include a community space and food and drink kiosk, as well as a roof terrace that allows the community to experience Elephant Park immersed in the park's extensive tree canopy. The pavilion towards the end of the summer this year.
